About this cabinet In the cabinet

R.O. Software's 1988 DOS build is a late, polished child of the 1970s mainframe game simply called DND. You roll a Fighter, Magician, or Cleric the way a tabletop referee would — stats first, then a name — and walk into one of five hand-drawn labyrinths (Ancalagon, Dorthon, Galurung, and their kin). The map is not random. The walls are box-drawing characters. Combat is turn-based.

The tone is User Supported Software, copyright 1984–1988: copy it, play it, mail the authors if it stuck. The in-game line still holds — the character you make may contain a tiny bit of yourself. Go one level deeper than you meant to. Then press H if you forget how you got there.
